Bulbasaur and Ivysaur are another example. Braixen's design is similar to Fennekin, but it's unique enough to survive on its own without having to be an evolution of a starter. One way to avoid making this mistake is to look at the evolution's design and think to yourself: "If this Fakemon were a real Pokemon, is its design unique enough to survive on its own if it weren't an evolution of the starter? Or would it just be forgotten?" An example would be Fennekin & Braixen. Try not to make it look like just the exact same thing as the first stage but meaner looking. What I mean here is that you'll want to come up with a design that separates it from all other Pokemon, even its evolution and previous form. This is where you may be as detailed as you wish!Īnother important tip is to make the evolution look like it could be its own Pokemon. The evolutions aren't too hard, but will be if you haven't made a basic starter yet.īasically you just make your evolutions more detailed and stronger than it's previous forms. Save the over detailed stuff for their evolved forms! Be creative! But don't make them TOO COMPLICATED. There's also another pattern Nintendo has done to their starters: The Grass Types are based off of extinct creatures (they were all reptiles up until X and Y), the Fire Types are from the zodiacs, and the Water Types are based on aquatic but not fully aquatic animals, like amphibians and seals!īe original, don't steal ideas from other people, because that's just rude and lame.
